Vicky Kaushal, who is now 34 years old, was born in Mumbai on 16th May 1988 in a Punjabi family. Vicky Kaushal’s father, Sham Kaushal, was an Indian Action Film Director, and his mother, Veena Kaushal, was a homemaker. He also has a younger brother. Vicky Kaushal’s brother Sunny Kaushal is also an actor now.
Since childhood itself, Vicky has been quite fond of the film industry. Vicky used to watch a lot of films in his childhood. During his school days, he was like a regular student who loved to play sports and studied well. His father, Sham Kaushal, wanted him to have a different career and not make a career in the film industry. Vicky completed his graduation in engineering in the year 2009 from Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Technology, Mumbai.

He had always been fond of films. But, he tried to create a decent career in his educational field. Soon he realized he could not do a desk job and wanted to pursue his career in the Indian Film Industry.
He started by joining Kishore Namit Kapoor’s academy to learn acting, and parallelly he also took theatre experience in Manav Kaul’s group named ‘Aranya’ and some backstage assistance and stand-ins in Motley Production of Naseeruddin Shah. He also gave many auditions for around two years but couldn’t land an opportunity.
Soon he made his first appearance in a theatre performance, ‘Laal Pencil’ in 2011.
After this, he started working as an assistant director to get a better experience and a closer look at his dream. In 2012, he worked as an assistant director for ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur,’ a crime drama by Anurag Kashyap. He also played a few minor roles in movies like ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana in 2012, in a short film ‘Geek Out’ in the year 2013, and
‘Bombay Velvet’ in the year 2015.
The Debut
Finally, in the year 2015, Kaushal made his debut with ‘Massan’ an Independent Drama Film. Neeraj Ghaywan directed the film. Vicky Kaushal and Neeraj Gheywan were both the assistant directors for Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur.’ ‘Massan’ was an acting debut for Vicky and a directorial debut for Neeraj Gheywan.
Originally Raj Kumar Rao was cast for the role, but as he backed out, Vicky Kaushal was selected after auditioning for it. He starred alongside Richa Chadda and Shweta Tripathi. The movie received a lot of appreciation for depicting the story of different characters and their existential problems.
