After the brutal Pahalgam Attack on 22 April, the Indian Air Force conducted well-calculated missile strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan. However, this led to increased tension between the two nations and heavy shelling on the LoC separating India-administered Kashmir from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor News Updates
On May 7, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave a brief description of Operation Sindoor and its precise attacks on the terror camps.
This missile attack on Pakistan terrorist camps lasted 25 minutes from 01:05 AM to 01:30 AM on May 7. Reportedly, the Indian Air Force precisely struck the 9 terror camps in Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) used to plan and carry out attacks against India. Moreover, Pakistan military establishments were reportedly not targeted, and all actions were measured and focused.
According to sources, more than 70 terrorists were reported to have lost their lives in the strikes, and over 60 were injured. 1) The Sawai Nala Camp in Muzaffarabad

2) The Syedna Bilal Camp in Muzaffarabad
It was utilised by Jaish-e-Mohammad as a staging point for launching attacks across the Line of Control (LoC). At this facility, training in the use of weapons, handling explosives and surviving in jungle terrain was provided to the terrorists.
3) The Gulpur Camp in Kotli
It was also reported that Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind behind the Mumbai attacks, regularly visited the camp for brainwashing activities.
The camp served as a primary base for Lashkar-e-Taiba. Those who received training at this location were later active in the Rajauri-Poonch region and were involved in the 2023 attacks in Poonch as well as the assault on a pilgrim bus the following year.
4) The Abbas Camp in Kotli
The camp was regarded as the central hub for training suicide bombers affiliated with Lashkar. It was reported to be able to accommodate and train approximately 50 terrorists at a time.
5) The Barnala Camp in Bhimber
Instruction in jungle survival techniques was provided at the facility. The camp was also utilised to train the terror recruits on explosives and to give them weapons.
6) The Sarjal Camp in Sialkot
The attack in Jammu and Kashmir in March, which resulted in the deaths of 4 policemen, was attributed to the terrorists who had received training at this camp.
7) The Mehmoona Joya Camp near Sialkot
This camp was reportedly operated as a training centre by Hizbul Mujahideen. The 2016 attack on the Pathankot airbase was said to have been administered from this location. It was also reportedly used to coordinate terrorist activities in the Kathua-Jammu region.
8) The Markaz Taiba Camp in Muridke
The camp served as the headquarters for Lashkar-e-Taiba. It was reported that David Headley underwent training at this camp. It was also revealed that Ajmal Kasab, the terrorist captured alive during the Mumbai attacks, had admitted to receiving training at this facility.
9) Markaz Subhan Camp in Bahawalpur
Terrorist commanders, including Masood Azhar, were known to frequently visit this facility. The camp served as the headquarters for Jaish-e-Mohammad and was utilised to train, recruit and brainwash the potential recruits.
Overall, these 9 sites attacked in Operation Sindoor served various purposes, from weapons and explosives training to brainwashing and launch points for cross-border attacks.
In an official statement issued early Wednesday, it was emphasised that the targets were selected and the operation had been conducted with precision and control, and was non-escalatory in nature.
Several videos shared across social media platforms were seen capturing the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. Large fireballs and dense clouds of smoke were visible. In some clips, civilians were shown assembling on the streets, and explosions could be seen from a distance. Additionally, footage from a dashboard camera appeared to document secondary explosions occurring near police checkpoints.
More than 70 terrorists were killed and over 60 wounded in the strikes, sources said, as India significantly degraded the operational capability of these facilities under Operation Sindoor. As a result of Operation Sindoor, the missile attack on Pakistan by the Indian Armed Forces, the Pakistan army reportedly carried out an intense mortar shelling and firing on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The attacks targeted several villages across 4 districts near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, damaging numerous homes and vehicles.
At least 12 civilians, including 3 women and 3 children, lost their lives, and 51 others sustained injuries. This allegedly unprovoked shelling by Pakistani forces in the Poonch sector also led to the martyrdom of an Indian soldier.
Following the onset of shelling by Pakistani forces, a majority of civilians from Karnah were relocated to safer zones. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Airports Authority has temporarily halted flight services at Lahore, Karachi and Sialkot airports, as reported by Pakistani media outlets.

Schools in Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Amritsar and Ferozepur districts have been shut on Thursday, May 8, until further notice amid the Pakistan attack news.

According to an official directive issued by the district magistrate, a Joint Control Room has been set up at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), which is being administered by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Srinagar. All 10 Kashmir districts have similar control rooms for real-time monitoring.
